The journaling (about how my name was decided) reads:
My mother wanted to name me Jennifer if I was a girl and Kenneth if I was a boy. My dad did not like Jennifer-and said it was a dog’s name. So I was named Melissa Elizabeth instead. Melissa because my mom and dad liked the name-and Elizabeth after my maternal grandmother. Flash forward a few years. My family called me Missy in my early childhood years as a nickname.
Well, right across the street the neighbors had a dog named Missy. I’ve hated the nickname ever since. And guess what? I’ve yet to meet a dog named Jennifer.
