Journaling Reads: I couldn’t resist snapping this picture of the three of you. We had just hauled up the Christmas decoration boxes and were ready to start decorating. I snagged the lights for the tree and began one of my traditional tasks. Since the tree ornaments couldn’t be added yet,the three of you (Gayle, Tianna, and Grandma), began to unload the other decorations from the boxes. First out was Grandma’s beautiful, and authentic, NutCracker.
Tianna snatched it up, so Grandma told her not only to be gentle with the little man, but why. This decoration was special. Her brother-in-law, your Uncle Lee, brought it home for her from a visit to Germany. After learning that, the toy was handled with tender care the rest of the night.
Learning about our family’s tales and traditions keeps this time of year special for all of us. I remember learning the story behind the NutCracker when I was little. I am glad Grandma was able to tell you the tale herself. I hope it is handed down for years and generations to come. Both the NutCracker and the beautiful story behind it.
